The Trail of Painted Ponies
Four Seasons Collection ~ 2008
The Trail's first offering of a collection has been met with resounding enthusiasm. The Four Seasons is a true limited edition herd as well,
with only 20,000 pieces of each pony being produced. Once these are gone, they are gone, and will only be available on the secondary market. They are
all resins. The staggered release of this herd, to coincide with the seasons, made for good marketing but was a bit frustrating for collectors. T5 and
Autumn Dancer would have to be considered the favorites, but the other two are by no means slouches in this group.
The medallion embedded on the top of the base features the name of the pony, and the edition number which is formatted this way;
xxxxx/20,000.
The bottom of the base has the name of the pony and the artist's name as well as "Handcrafted in China".
The copyright date is 2008 for all of these ponies.
The boxes for these ponies are quite distinct. Please refer to their descriptions for details.
To my knowledge, none of these ponies were made into life size models.
Since these are true LE ponies they must all be considered retired.

Tip Toe Through The Tulips
Leslie Gates
Resin
Retired July 2011
Last Model # 20,000/20,000
Tip-Toe is the second offering from the talented Leslie Gates and what a treasure. A lovely, stark black and white Appaloosa features vibrantly colored
tulips reaching up from the stem covered legs of the pony. The rainbow of tulips contrasts beautifully with the model's base colors and are quite detailed.
The raised resin points of the flowers adds depth and allows the eye to flow over the pony. Don't miss the charming black and white kitty hiding in the
flowers which is the reason the pony is carefully tip-toeing. A clever, fun piece that is a must for any collection. The face is not detailed which works
well with this piece. The base is black and features the inset, round golden medallion with the edition number of the pony. This model presents with no
problems and displays easily either in a lighted cabinet or in a colorful springtime display.
T5 comes in a sweetly colored, light yellow patterned box.

Summer Ballet
Joyce Kennedy
Resin
Still in production, but limited to 20,000 pieces.
An eye-catching piece but still a bit of a disappointment. Summer Ballet is a white pony that features incredibly detailed ruby throated hummingbirds
flitting among vibrantly colored red trumpet flowers. The red flowers are offset by green leaves and vines as well as the lightest blush of lavender on
small sprays of flowers scattered among the red and green. A close inspection will reveal several orange and black butterflies as well. The piece should
work but it doesn't quite make it and the general reason why is that this design would be much better suited as a ceramic. The raised resin of the model
gives it the appearance of heaviness or perhaps clunky, not what one would associate with hummingbirds and butterflies. The ankles and forelegs are a
dark lavender that fades into the white legs. The hooves are gold. The face features detailed eyes, green leaves on either side of the muzzle, and the
lighter lavendar on the rest of the face. The base is white and features the inset, golden medallion with the edition number information. Ballet
presents with no known issues. Displays best under direct lighting.
Summer Ballet comes in a dark pink or maybe coral colored, patterned box.

Autumn Dancer
Mike Dowdall - Westland Giftware
Resin
Still in production, but limited to 20,000 pieces.
Probably the favorite of the four seasons line, Autumn Dancer is a wonderfully shaded sienna and tan pony. A perfect design for the beautiful running
mold. Stark black trees that at first appear bare reach skyward with their forks clearly exposed. The flurry of russet colored leaves seem to swirl
around and behind the trunks of the trees giving the appearance of a blustery scene straight out of a fall day. The barest hint of white along the
bottom of the barrel and tops of the legs of the pony hints at the snow to come. A misty orb, could be the sun or perhaps an early moon, hovers over
the tree tops. The mane, forelock and tail are all black as are the socks and hooves of the piece. The face features accentuated eyes that are not
detailed. The base is a textured blood brown with lovely autumn leaves scattered among the horse's hooves. Again the inset, golden medallion with
the edition information appears on the base. This fella presents the occasional leaf that has broken off the base. This is not easily repaired so
check your new member carefully. Dancer displays quite nicely under direct lighting as well as in a festive fall display of leaves, pine cones and greenery.
Autumn Dancer has a lovely wooded brown patterned box.

Winter Song
Lynn Bean
Resin
Still in production, but limited to 20,000 pieces.
A pretty pony but not a favorite. A white base pony with unique points that include strikingly detailed birds on both sides. The bright red cardinal
is a standout with the muted blue jay offsetting the opposite side. The white of the snow comes up the legs and body of the pony and then eases the
eye into the soft blue of the winter sky. The mane and tail are frosty white as is the face with just the barest hint of blue. Large snowflakes are
scattered on the withers and underside which leads me to the chief complaint with this piece. The birds, green pine twigs and brown pine cones, while
detailed are too large and seem to overpower the entire model. The images are conspicuous when they should be understated as are the birds themselves.
The face features coal black eyes that stand out nicely but again, rather starkly. The base is textured to appear snow like and sparkling with blue edges.
A large pine branch with greenery rests between the white hooves. The piece presents with no problems. Displays best under direct lighting as well as in
a holiday mantle display.
Winter Song has a wintery blue patterned box.
